Shropshire is home to a number of excellent places to eat and drink, many of which are just a short cycle, drive or taxi ride away. Below is a selection of our favourites, many of which have been welcoming guests from the Estate for a number of years. With the historic town of Shrewsbury close by, there's also a wide range of bars, restaurants and cafes within easy reach, while Ludlow's Michelin-starred restaurants, La Becasse and Mr Underhill's, are around an hour's drive.
LOCAL PUBS
The Royal Oak (Cardington): set in one of the most beautiful villages in the Shropshire Hill country with good food and local beers.
The Fox Inn (Ryton): closest to the Pitchford Estate (2.5 miles), pretty village pub serving good food. Nice place to watch the sun set over the Shropshire Hills.
The Bottle & Glass (Picklescott): classic historic village pub, low beams, great log fire and excellent food. You’ll need to book a table as popular.
The Crown (Munslow): a dining pub with excellent locally sourced food and drink. Try the local Mahorall Farm Shropshire cider.
The Pound (Leebotwood): a newly refurbished rural thatched country pub offering good food with an emphasis on fresh local produce. Open in the mornings for coffee.
The Boat Inn (Jackfield): Pub set on the banks of the River Severn in the beautiful Ironbridge Gorge with a large garden, good beer and regularly does live music events.
The Riverside Inn (Cound): More of a dining Inn than a pub. It has good food with a great view of the River Severn.
The Boyne Arms (Burwarton): Classic Georgian coaching inn with good seasonal food and an attractive garden. Worth a detour if you are driving back from Ludlow or Bridgnorth.
