PUBS

The Riverside Inn (Cound): perched on a terrace overhanging the River Severn the Inn won the newcomer pub of the year in 1998. It has excellent food with warm and welcoming service.

The Royal Oak (Cardington): set in a beautiful village in the Shropshire Hill country we thoroughly recommend this pub.

The Swan (Frodesley) and the Fox Inn (Ryton) are the two closest to the Pitchford Estate and are both good village pubs.

Condover: well stocked village shop including delicious home made pastries, pies and bread. The village also has a Post Office which sells newspapers.

ACTIVITIES

Riding: Berriewood Stud Farm is 3 miles from the South Lodge and less than a mile from Windy Mundy Farm. Hacks can be arranged with these stables across the Pitchford Estate.

Fishing: Cound Trout Farm is within 3 miles of Pitchford. We hope to provide fishing facilities on the Estate in the near future.

Shooting: there is a traditional pheasant shoot on the Estate. We would be delighted to put you in touch with the shoot organiser.

Hunting: the South Shropshire is the local hunt.

Church: St Michael and All Angels (C of E) is next to Pitchford Hall and holds regular services. As a Norman church with interesting contents, most notably a fine 7 foot 12th Century effigy carved out of a solid piece of oak (one of only 3 in the whole country) of Sir John De Pitchforde, a crusader - it is well worth a visit.
